Cyber Resilience in Action: My Keynote at Cyber Security Summit Brasil

Delivering the closing keynote at Cyber Security Summit Brasil in São Paulo was an incredible experience that reinforced a universal truth: cyber resilience is as much about people and culture as it is about technology. The energy, insights, and enthusiasm of the Brazilian cybersecurity community left me inspired and grateful to be part of such a vibrant and engaged audience.

Here are some of the key takeaways from my talk:

1. Phishing Remains the Biggest Threat

🎣 90% of cyber crimes involve phishing. Despite its simplicity, phishing remains the primary gateway for breaches. The fact that most attacks are deemed unsophisticated highlights a critical problem: many of these incidents are preventable with better cyber hygiene and awareness.

2. Cyber Hygiene is a Cultural Problem

🔓 Poor cybersecurity practices often stem from organisational culture. Lack of funding, prioritisation, resources, or knowledge creates vulnerabilities that attackers exploit. Cyber hygiene isn’t just an IT issue—it’s a leadership and cultural challenge.

3. AI is Transforming Cyber Attacks

🤖 The rise of AI-powered cyber attacks is reshaping the threat landscape. From deepfake phishing to AI-driven malware, these technologies are evolving rapidly. Traditional security awareness isn’t enough; we need to integrate psychological training that prepares employees to identify and resist increasingly sophisticated tactics.

4. Security Culture is a Burning Risk

🔥 Security culture isn’t just an HR initiative—it’s a critical risk area. CISOs need to adopt a risk-based approach that prioritises security culture as much as they do technical defences. Investments shouldn’t just be financial but also include dedicated time and resources to drive meaningful change.

The Power of Connection

The enthusiasm and collaboration within the Brazilian cybersecurity community were nothing short of inspiring. From insightful conversations to meaningful networking opportunities, it’s clear that Brazil is embracing the importance of cybersecurity at every level.

The key takeaway from my talk is simple but powerful: cybersecurity is about more than technology, it’s about people, culture, and leadership. Whether it’s addressing phishing, building awareness for AI threats, or embedding security culture into business strategy, we must prioritise human-centric solutions to modern cyber challenges.

Thank you, Brazil, for your warm welcome, inspiring energy, and commitment to making a difference. I’m already looking forward to returning to this vibrant and forward-thinking community.

Obrigada! 🌎✨
